Donald B. Porter, Ed.D.

Dr. Donald “Donnie” Porter has built a successful career in senior-level administrator positions by leading communication teams in school systems across Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina for over two decades. Additionally, he has managed law enforcement public affairs and worked as a television reporter and news anchor in front of the camera. Donnie was even the editor-in-chief of his college newspaper!

As a trusted communications adviser, Donnie has specialized in analyzing situations and delivering sound, professional judgment on a wide variety of communication opportunities and the strategic mindset to predict future possibilities and transform them into exciting, effective campaigns.

Admittedly, there there are other consultant services available.

However, the School Communications Group is different because it was founded as an affordable consulting option for districts needing extensive front-line experience leading actual school communications efforts. These include crisis communications, media relations, issues management, message development, internal and external stakeholder engagement, marketing, and community and public relations.

Donnie is married to his fantastic wife, Katie, a past school district teacher of the year from central Georgia. She currently works as Director of the CTE Innovation Center at Roper Mountain with Greenville County Schools in Greenville, South Carolina, which opened in 2023.

A proud graduate of Georgia Southern University, Donnie earned a Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum Studies with a concentration in Multicultural Education in 2011. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Augusta University in Georgia. In 2019, he completed the Diversity Leaders Initiative housed in The Riley Institute at Furman University in Greenville.
